March for Truth Shines Light on a Dark Trump

Attendees were encouraged to bring flashlights, glowsticks, LEDs or any light conveyance mechanisms they could think of to attend first evening march in protest of President Trump.  The call for attendance to the March for Truth went out on Meetup, Facebook, Craigslist and every progressive event calendar in Phoenix.  I wasn’t sure that the event would get any attention with the excessive heat advisories scheduled throughout the week but the number of “Going” responses climbed up past 200.  Multiple local news organizations reported crowds of over 200 attendees at the march.

In the crowd a number of candidates were out showing their support for transparency.  US Senate Candidate Deedra Abboud came out to the rally even as sunset began to fade and her Ramadan fasting was scheduled to break.  She was seen working the crowd shaking hands and taking selfies with attendees.  Arizona Gubernatorial Candidate Noah Dyer was on hand exciting the crowd with a clear message to progressives that they need to get out of their comfort zones and start having honest conversations with their conservative family and friends about the meaning of truth.

Organizer and event MC Wendy Garcia of Indivisible Suprise kept the crowd excited for several hours between live music, political speakers and even an appearance by Clucky the Flakey Chicken.  The event was a resounding success for the numerous political groups that set up tables to provide information and recruit volunteers.  AZ Blue 2020, SOSAZ, Brianna Westbrook 2018 and a number of other groups were present.  The event was an even bigger success for democracy as attendees proved once more that this is not a new normal.
