Congressional Republican shooting response

June 15, 2017

Wednesday’s events at the Republican Congressional baseball practice were shocking and horrendous. Our hearts are with everyone affected by this horrible crime. The political climate in our country is beyond toxic, it is dangerous. Violence is never a solution to our differences.

The toxicity transcends party affiliation and ideologies. Last week, CD6’s representative David Schweikert sent a fundraising letter that mentioned groups like Indivisible and claimed we incite violence and set cars on fire. His letter has in turn increased the risk of violence against us. Let’s all stay safe out there.

We don’t think we’ll be able to fix the political climate that exists today, but we do think we can continue to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Indivisible stands to make America better for everyone. Our values and beliefs are that every American should have access to the rights bestowed on us in the Constitution: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, and that our nation stands for justice for all. You cannot have life without access to health care. You cannot have liberty without access to education. You cannot be happy if you are deciding between buying medication, food for your children, or paying your rent. And justice is unfortunately sorely lacking for many of our friends and neighbors.

We are on the right side of history. We must continue to act that way. Those who disagree with us are not the enemy, they are the opposition. At the end of the day, we are all Americans who want what is best for our country. We just disagree on how to get there. We will continue to work towards the vision we have for this nation through events, calls to actions and other opportunities.

Thank you again for all you do,

The Board
